Hugh Oakley

Mr. Oakley, 82, of Salisbury, Del., formerly of Freehold, died Oct. 30, 2009, at home. He began his career with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and later went to work as a fruit broker for Blue Goose Growers in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Oakley served on the Freehold Township Board of Education in for 20 years, 16 of those as president. He also served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Freehold. Surviving are his wife, Marion W. Oakley; a son, William Oakley and his wife, Kathleen, of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Jeanne Dwiggins and her husband, Dale, and Wendy Kemmet and her husband, Richard, both of Salisbury; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service was at Old Tennent Cemetery in the Tennent section of Manalapan. Memorial donations may be sent to the Marion and Hugh Oakley Foundation, 603 Indian Lane, Salisbury, MD 21801. Arrangements were in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar, Md.
