Grant to be used for safety doors

FREEHOLD — At its Oct. 15 regional sub fund meeting, the New Jersey School Boards Association Insurance Group (NJSBAIG) awarded the Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education a safety grant in the amount of $3,654.

According to a press release, the grant rewards the school district for its commitment to risk management and must be used to invest in further safety- and security-related improvements within the district. The Freehold Borough Board of Education was one of 58 districts presented with a grant check at the Monmouth Ocean County Shared Services Insurance Fund (MOCSSIF) meeting.

Freehold Borough school district BusinessAdministrator Patrick S. DeGeorge was in attendance and accepted the grant check on behalf of the board. He announced that the grant money will be used to defray the cost of purchasing safety doors at the Freehold Learning Center elementary school, Dutch Lane Road.

In keeping with its mission to protect New Jersey schools and keep district dollars in the classroom, NJSBAIG established the safety grant program this year to help member districts reduce their loss exposure and insurance costs through proactive risk management, according to the press release.

The grant program provides funding that schools otherwise may not have to invest in safety- and security-related projects that will make their schools safer for students, employees and the communities they serve. In total, NJSBAIG is awarding $3 million in safety grants to member districts across the state.

The NJSBAIG is a nonprofit entity providing property, casualty and workers' compensation insurance at competitive rates to New Jersey public schools, according to the press release. It is the only statewide, member owned school district joint insurance fund.

This year NJSBAIG celebrates 26 years helping member districts to stabilize insurance costs with comprehensive insurance coverage, competitive rates, in-house claims management and a host of risk management and loss control services, according to the press release.
