      Andrews wins national title at 800 meters
            Robby Andrews will take some well-deserved time off for the next week or so and he will not think about running. Andrews, who graduated from Manalapan High School on June 23, earned the time off by winning his second national championship of the 2008-09 school year at the Nike Outdoor Nationals held in Greensboro, N.C.

      Tennis players excel during '09 campaign
            It is still Marlboro. Coach Dave Kretzmer'sM arlboro High School Mustangs prevailed in Shore Conference A North Division boys tennis again. The Mustangs went 13-1 in division play in 2009 and shared the overall crown with Christian Brothers Academy of Lincroft (Marlboro was the outright public school winner in the division).

      Feehan, Matthews lead All-District volleyball
            Led by Howell High School's successful defense of its Shore Conference A North Division championship, boys volleyball in the Freehold Regional High School District enjoyed unprecedented success in 2009. Coach Jim Huebner's Howell Rebels were once again the top team on the court, capturing the A North title for the third consecutive year.

      St. Rose softball team completes perfect year
            The St. Rose of Lima School softball team is back on top. The Lady Jaguars from the Freehold Borough school won the Monmouth-Ocean Parochial School Girls Softball League championship by defeating St. Dominic of Brick Township, 4-0, in the title game played June 6 at Rash Field in Belmar.

      Spadola, Kellner among FARC's Stuper winners
            Ryan Spadola, who anchored Freehold Township High School's record-setting 4x400-meter relay team in 2009, heads the list of winners of the Freehold Area Running Club's 2009 Matthew Stuper Scholarship Award. This award is given each year to FARC members who will be continuing their education in college, vocational or technical school, or graduate school.

            The Freehold Borough Flag Football League will have a sign-up table at Kruise Nite, June 25; on June 27 at the one-day football camp being held at the Freehold High School football field; and on June 28 as the flag football league is a sponsor for the Freehold Borough Little League Home Run Derby.

      SBOA president says Freehold will reopen
            Tom Luchento, president of the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey, stood before about 70 horsemen on June 6, prior to the final card of the Freehold Raceway 2009 winter-spring harness racing meet. According to a press release, the first thing he did was dispel rumors that this might be the last closing day at Freehold.

      Comfort, Marino lead All-District lacrosse
            Once again, Freehold Township High School dominated girls lacrosse in the Freehold Regional High School District. Coach Nikki Hastings' Patriots won their third consecutive Shore Conference A North Division title in 2009. During that span they Patriots have gone 35-1 in their division, with the lone loss coming this year to Ocean Township High School.
