'NAMI Basics' course to begin Feb. 20

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) New Jersey will offer a free six-week course for the primary caregivers of children age 2-18 with mental health challenges 7- 9:30 p.m. Fridays Feb. 20-March 27 at the NAMI office at 1562 Route 130, North Brunswick.

The course, "NAMI Basics," is taught by trained family members of children/adolescents with mental illness to other like family members, addressing the needs of younger families. Topics include communication skills, substance abuse, school systems, and mental health systems. Disorders addressed include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, childhood onset bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders.
