Police officer remembered
Miller, 67, a lifetime resident of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died July 15. Miller served as a police officer for Marlboro for 28 years, during which time he was appointed as the township's first civil defense officer and Office of Emergency Management coordinator. He was a past president of PBA Local No. 196. In addition to his position in the Marlboro Police Department, Miller served his hometown in other ways. He was a life member of the Morganville First Aid Squad, serving for more than 20 years. For 37 years, Miller sat on the Marlboro Fire District No. 3 Board of Fire Commissioners. He served with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for more than 35 years. Holmes described Miller as "the type of volunteer you don't get anymore." Those who knew him said above all else, Miller loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary Miller; his "little girl" Theresa Miller; and two sons, Robert Miller with his wife Jill, and Daniel Miller with his wife Kimberly. Miller is also survived by his granddaughters, Cory, Jessie, Brittany and Rosey, and his grandsons, Josh, Wyatt and Clay. In his free time, Miller was an avid outdoorsman, his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, stock car racing and trapshooting. His love of trapshooting led Miller to be a life member of the Amateur TrapshootingAssociation and a past president of the New Jersey Amateur Trapshooting Association. Township Council Vice President Steve Rosenthal led a moment of silence in honor of Miller during the council's July 17 meeting. "We'll always remember him," Mayor Jonathan Hornik said. |
