Boy Scout's renovation of shrine earns Eagle rank

MARLBORO - Timothy Lee, a member of Boy Scout Troop 86 of Marlboro, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Lee completed the requirements for the rank of Eagle by planning and carrying out a leadership project renovating a shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the surrounding landscaping at his high school, Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft.

The landscaping included the demolition and rebuilding of a retaining wall, walkway renovation, bench installation, shrub removal, and the planting of new, flowering shrubs and grass. About 20 Scouts and five adults worked on the project that took several months to complete.

Lee became a Cub Scout in 1999 and, as a Webelo, earned his Arrow of Light Award. In 2001 he became a Boy Scout, joining Troop 86. Over the course of Lee's Scouting career he has earned 28 merit badges, hiked more than 50 miles and camped more than 20 nights.

In addition to his Scouting activities, Lee has also participated in many piano competitions and has performed as a soloist, as a duet, and as a trio team at Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center. He has wonmany piano competitions including Golden Key Festival, Cecilian Young Artist Competition, Cecilian Awards Competition and the National Guild of Piano Auditions.

He has participated in several Monster Concert Extravaganzas during which many pianos are played at the same time.

In 2004 Lee went to China where he participated in the Shanghai International Children's Cultural and Arts Festival. He debuted as a piano soloist at the Shanghai Grand Theater and performed in the "Hand in Hand" Hundred Chinese and American Children Piano Legato.

At CBA, Lee participated in the Italian Culture Club, the Model United Nations, the math team and the science team. He also played varsity tennis and volunteered at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

Lee is the second Scout in his family to earn the rank of Eagle. His brother, Dan, earned his award in 2003 after he constructed a playground at the Colts Neck Community Church.

Next fall, Lee plans on continuing his studies at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. He also hopes to continue with his piano studies at the Peabody Conservatory.
