DOT to resurface stretch of Route 9

New Jersey Commissioner of Transportation Kris Kolluri has announced that the state Department of Transportation (DOT) will resurface approximately 6 miles of Route 9 northbound in Manalapan and Marlboro in Monmouth County and Old Bridge in Middlesex County.

"Resurfacing this stretch of Route 9 will improve the road's efficiency and provide relief from potholes and poor driving surfaces," Kolluri said.

Beginning on June 25, DOT will resurface Route 9 northbound from north of Taylors Mills Road in Manalapan to north of Spring Valley Road in Old Bridge. According to a press release from the DOT, the existing road is deteriorated and exhibits rutting, cracking and heavy potholes. DOT also will rehabilitate the sidewalks, driveways and inlets along this stretch of Route 9.

In order to minimize traffic impact during construction, DOT will not implement permanent detours. A single lane of Route 9 northbound will close on Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOT is scheduled to complete the project in September.

DOT will install variable message signs to inform motorists of traffic pattern changes. Real time traffic information is available on www.NJ511.info or www.njcommuter. com.
