Scouts spruce up game room
BY KATHY BARATTA Staff Writer

MANALAPAN - Girl Scouts Nicole Tymczak, 13, and Veronica Pereira, 13, will be recognized by the township for an effort they made on behalf of Manalapan's senior citizens.

Nicole and Veronica are pupils at the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School. They have been involved in Girl Scouts together since they were in the first grade.

Veronica's mother, Nydia, said the girls have been friends since they met as firstgraders and have worked together before on scouting projects. The girls' latest project was undertaken to earn theGirl Scout Silver Award.

Pereira said her daughter andNicole decided to refurbish the game/computer room at theManalapan Senior Center, Route 522. Their goal was to earn the second highest award that a Girl Scout can receive - the SilverAward.

The highest award a Girl Scout can receive is theGoldAward and that can be pursuedwhen a young lady reaches high school.

Pereira said the Girl Scout SilverAward recognizes leadership ability in young women while encouraging community service projects.

She said the girls painted the game/computer room at the senior center in March. Pereira said Nicole and Veronica got the inspiration for their SilverAward projectwhile they were helping another Scout in a landscaping project at the senior center.

Pereira said the girls will receive their SilverAward in June. They are also expected to receive a proclamation fromManalapan.
