Swim club opens doors to residents of Manalapan MARLBORO - In the near future, residents of Marlboro and Manalapan will be able to mingle poolside at the Marlboro Swim Club. An ordinance that, if adopted by the Township Council, would permit residents of Manalapan to purchase memberships at Marlboro's pools had its first reading and introduction at the May 15 council meeting. The ordinance is expected to have a public hearing, second reading and vote for adoption at the June 5 council meeting. Township Attorney Ronald Gordon explained that the ordinance will create a new class of membership open to Manalapan residents. The ordinance will put into law a shared services agreement that was reached by Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik and Manalapan Mayor Michelle Roth. Membership to Manalapan residents and another category of sponsored memberships will be limited to a total of 250 memberships, according to the ordinance. According to the rate schedule, the fee for Manalapan residents will be $525 for a full-time family; $260 for a fulltime individual; and $130 for a senior citizen. The Marlboro Swim Club, Masepe Trail, off Gordons Corner Road, has four pools and two waterslides. The 7-acre property provides plenty of shade from trees and large umbrellas. Playgrounds and volleyball courts are also accessible. Marlboro residents may obtain a sponsored membership to the Marlboro Swim Club for someone other than a Marlboro or Manalapan resident. In other council business, a contract was awarded to Eastgate Construction, Loch Arbour, for $41,240 for the replacement of the roof at the Marlboro grounds maintenance building and sign shop. According to a memo sent to Superintendent of Public Works Bob DiMarco, the roof and gutters of the building will be removed and replaced. The township will provide garbage bins for the debris, according to the contract. The council, in keeping with a pledge Hornik made upon taking office in January, awarded a contract to Patriot Consulting Group, Monmouth Beach, to provide grant search and grant writing services to Marlboro. According to the contract, Patriot Consulting Group will receive a monthly consulting fee of $1,000. For each new grant Marlboro receives that it has not previously received, Patriot Consulting Group will receive a premium of an amount equal to 7 percent of the grant award. At no time will any individual premium exceed $10,000, according to the resolution. And, a contract was awarded to resident Frank Dicopoulos, of Dicopoulos Productions Inc., in the amount of $12,000 to provide consulting services for Marlboro's cable television channel 77. The contract has the option to renew for an additional year. |
