Sports Shorts Brittany Scott enjoyed the finest year of her field hockey career atMonmouthUniversity in 2008. The senior attack player scored 14 goals and had five assists for the Hawks, who were 13-5. During her four years atMonmouth, the Hawks captured the Northeast Conference championship twice (2006, 2007). This spring,Monmouth was 7-1 in the NEC during the regular season and lost in the semifinals. Scott is a graduate of Freehold Township, where she was the first Patriot to register 100 career goals. She concluded her fouryear career with 161 goals and 40 assists. Scott also lettered in field hockey at Freehold Township. A trio of area athletes - Kevin Ernst, Dave Schoer and Jeff Calabrese, are playing baseball for Felician College. Ernst and Schoer were teammates at Manalapan High School. Schoer, a junior third baseman, is hitting .271 for theGolden Falcons with 18 runs scored and 23 RBIs in 38 starts. Ernst, a sophomore pitcher, has been limited to three appearances due to in jury.He has a 4.15 earned-run average in 4.1 innings of work. He has only allowed two hits. Calabrese, a Christian Brothers Academy graduate, is 3-1 with a 4.42 ERA. He has appeared in nine games, five as a starter. He was an All-Central Athletic CollegiateConference (CACC) selection in 2007. Felician College is 22-20 overall this spring and 14-9 in CACC play. Howell's Corey Carrick captured the first event of the Junior GolfAmerica's 2008 tournament schedule. The Howell High School sophomore carded a 79 at Sea Oaks Golf Club in Little Egg Harbor to win the MastersDivision (ages 16-18). Finishing second and third were Manalapan's Pat Dileo and Cedar Grove's Nick Miller, who both shot 83. The girls winner was Kelsi Kavanagh of Point Pleasant,who carded an 87. In theMasters 14-15 age bracket, Robert Sanderson of State Island, N.Y., led the way with a 92. That was one stroke better than Jonathan Szu-Han Chen of Basking Ridge. Billy Fitzpatrick of Howell was first in the Players 14-15 division, carding an 88. Michael Diorio of Wayne (91) and Brandon Lebental of Irvington (93) were second and third. Hana Ku of Basking Ridge was first in the Players 12-13 division taking 90 strokes to complete the course. Justin Zhen of Princeton was second with a 91 and Princeton'sAlice Chen was third (93). Howell's Dawson Jones won the Players 10-11 bracket, scoring a 37 over nine holes. Nicholas Infante ofAnnapolis,Md.,was second (40) and Jonathan Lee of Westfield, third (41). Tej Sighn ofMarlboro won the Players 8- 9 division with a 43 over nine holes. Anina Ku of Basking Ridge and Hunter Tuite of Wilmington, Del., were second with 49s. The Battle of Monmouth U12G Fireballs (U13 fall) is looking for players to fill their roster. All girls born between Aug. 1, 1995, and July 31, 1996, are eligible. The Fireballs are currently a Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association National 3 team. The team recently won the Wall Fall Classic U12G-Team championship and was the Jackson Summer Classic U12-G finalists.
