Science students stand out

MANALAPAN - A total of 17 Manalapan EnglishtownMiddle School Science Investigations That Excite Students (SITES) participants competed in the Albert Einstein Science Fair, the junior level of the Delaware Valley Science Fairs.

The Albert Einstein Science Fair was held at the Valley Forge Convention Center in Valley Forge, Pa.

The 17 students who competed in Pennsylvania had already placed first, second or third in their division at the Jersey Shore Science Fair held at Richard Stockton College on March 15.

The following MEMS pupils won recognition for their projects at the Albert Einstein Science Fair:

• Samuel Silverstein was awarded first place in the botany category for "Hydroponics vs. Soil Investigation." Samuel was also presented with three special awards, including the Middle School Program Award from the Society for Science and the Public, the Future Science Award from the Department of Agriculture, and the Scientific American Award for Outstanding Achievement in Education.

• Corey Weiner received honorable mention in the botany category for his "Wacky Water and Growing Radish Plants."

• Neil Jagtiani received honorable mention in the chemistry category for "Which LiquidMakes the HotWheels Car Travel the Furthest and the Fastest?"

• Vineel Chakradhar was awarded second place in the computer category for "Investigation: Strategy and Probability in Hi-Lo." Vineel also received the Middle School Program Award from the Society for Science and the Public.

• Pallavi Koppol was awarded third place in the computer category for "Tic- Tac-Toe: Can You Beat It?" Pallavi also received the Society of Women Engineers Award - Junior Level: third place.

• Adam Fazlibegu was awarded third place in mathematics for "What is the Fastest Way to Solve the Rubik's Cube?" Adam was also presented with the U.S. Air Force Award.

• Colleen Madden received honorable mention in the medicine category for "Which Beverage is Worst for Teeth?"

• Ilana Porter was awarded third place in the microbiology category for "Can Yeast Obtain Energy from Sugar Substitutes?"

• Ryan Chiyuto was presented with a special award in microbiology for "Will the Type of Sugar Affect the Amount of Carbon Dioxide Produced in the Process of Fermentation?" Ryan also received honorable mention from the American Society of Microbiology.
