Autopsy in girl's death inconclusive

MANALAPAN - An autopsy that was performed on a 17-year-old Manalapan girl who was found dead at her home proved inconclusive and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is continuing its investigation into the matter.

First Assistant Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr. said Sara Tendler, 17, who lived on Atrium Way, was discovered in bed and unresponsive on March 26 by a family member.

Warshaw declined to identify who the family member was.

Tendler was a senior at Manalapan High School.

Warshaw said police were called by the family member and responded to the home at about 2:30 p.m. Joining the police officers at the scene were personnel from the Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad and MONOC emergency medical services.

Warshaw said Tendler was still in her bed when the officers responded to the residence. She was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

He said an autopsy was performed on the teenager but reported that no conclusive cause of death has yet to be determined.

Warshaw said the matter is an ongoing investigation and would not comment when asked if any individual is being investigated in connection with the girl's death. - Kathy Baratta
