Foundation benefits from event

MARLBORO - The Marlboro Educational Foundation, a group ofMarlboro residents and business people dedicated to raising funds for innovative and creative programs not covered in the general school budget, recently held its third annual successful wine tasting event.

The event took place at Brioso in the Willow Pointe Shopping Center, Route 9. Joyce Sugarman and Lauren Waldman cochaired the event.

Sugarman's expertise in fundraising helped arrange the wine tasting through JWG Fine Wines and Spirits, located in Wegmans, and she worked with Brioso to accommodatemore than 120 people who attended the event. All of the foundation trustees were involved in getting the event off the ground.

JWG Fine Wines and Spirits supplied several different wines for the tasting, including pinot noirs, cabernets, roses and whites. These wine are all available for purchase at Wegmans in Manalapan.

Brioso served a four-course dinner along with appetizers on each table.

About 12 large baskets each containing items specific to a country (i.e., Italy, Canada, Japan, etc.) were sold through a silent auction. There was a 50/50 raffle which Marlboro Educational Foundation trusteeMichael Baker won. Baker donated his winnings back to the foundation.

Attendees at the event included Marlboro Superintendent of Schools David C. Abbott, state Assemblyman Declan J. O'Scanlon Jr., Mayor Jonathan Hornik, Councilman Frank LaRocca and Councilwoman Randi Marder.

According to the press release, the event raisedmore than $8,000 for the foundation.

The foundation is looking forward to its next big event, the third annual restaurant tasting evening, to be held on May 5 at the Excelsior Caterers on Route 9 in Manalapan.

The foundation is seeking restaurants to participate, local business to donate goods or services, and people to volunteer. Tickets for the event are currently being sold for $50 each.
