St. Gabriel boys finish with perfect record

Perfection.

The St. Gabriel's boys basketball team experienced it this winter in winning the Northern Monmouth Parochial Championship. The Marlboro school went 24-0. St. Gabriel's capped its perfect season with a signature 52-19 win in the championship game final against St. Clement Red. The final was played at Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft.

Like just about any undefeated season, St. Gabriel's did have a scare. In the playoff semifinal against St. Mary's (Colts Neck), it held in the final two minutes for a one-point, 27- 26, triumph. They followed that up with a flawless performance in the championship final.

St. Gabriel's won the A Division during the regular season.

Individual honors followed the champions as Stephen Donato won the league Most Valuable Player award, and Bobby Cartas and Anthony Uribe received the Team Sportsmanship Award from the league.

Making up the championship roster for St. Gabriel's were: Chris Battaglia, Andrew Bilotti, Bobby Cartas, Stephen Donato, John Hanaley, Matt Jelinsky, Matt Kemp, Logan McGuirl, Michael Monaco, Ryan Thompson andAnthony Uribe.

Luis Uribe is the head coach and Stephen Donato and Steve Thompson are assistant coaches.
