Town must keep going after residential overcrowding
It seems to me from what I read in the papers that the Freehold Borough code enforcement department is trying to take a stand against illegal renters and overcrowding and making sure the landlords and homeowners are not overloading their rental properties from cellar to attic with hoards of illegal men, women and children.

The people of Freehold already know that the taxes they pay are supplementing every one of them and I for one would like to see the code enforcement office take even more of a proactive stand about this matter.

I personally complained by phone and went directly to the code enforcement office about the four homes/apartments on my block (Ann Street) that are loaded with illegal renters. The minivan taxi horns blasting in the morning, the constant surge of illegal renters coming and going 24/7 and I even watched people climb in and out of the windows.

There are many, many other incidents that I could mention but I am sure that everyone who lives in these neighborhoods have their own horror stories.

My guess is that code enforcement's hands are tied, even when they visited one of the homes/apartments on Ann Street and found that it was being rented illegally months ago to numerous renters.

To my surprise they are still there, coming and going 24/7, blasting the horns, climbing through the windows, and most likely engaging in some type of activity that we read about in the papers every day. I just hope that the homes we own and have been working hard to pay the mortgage and taxes on has not been in vain.

I just hope that living in the borough and supporting the borough by paying the taxes for the schools and municipal budget has not been in vain.

If the value of the homes we own are dropping because of the economy that is one thing, but if the values are dropping from something we can control that is a travesty.

Borough officials need to recognize that not only my home, but the homes they own and live in along with the majority of the legal Freehold residents are going to be (to quote from a legal Freeholdian) "Our City of Ruin."
