Singer's career has been 'mm-mm good'

Marlene VerPlanck and Trio will perform a free jazz concert at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, March 16 at 2 p.m.

Millions of people first heard Ver- Planck's voice anonymously, on radio and television, when she espoused the merits of dozens of commercial products, among them: "Mm-mm good, mm-mm good, that's what Campbell's Soups are..."

She has been a backup vocalist for many artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to Kiss. She has appeared on radio and television and at Carnegie Hall.

"In a Digital Mood," featuring Ver- Planck, Mel Torme and Julius LaRosa with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, was the first big band CD to go gold. At the personal request of Richard Adler, the composer of "Damn Yankees" and "The Pajama Game,"Marlene recently recorded "You Gotta Have Heart: The Songs of Richard Adler."

Today VerPlanck performs across North America and Western Europe.
