3 men charged with burglary in Marlboro

MARLBORO- Three men believed to be responsible for more than 19 burglaries were arrested after a Marlboro police officer saw them leaving the scene of a burglary on Feb. 17.

According to police, Derek Edwards, 41, of New York, Steve Saulter, 40, of Teaneck, and Dennis Saulter, 41, ofMontclair, were each charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary. Dennis Saulter is also being held on additional charges from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

The three men are suspected of being part of a burglary ring operating out of Teaneck, Bergen County, Police Chief Robert Holmes said. All three suspects were being held at the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township.

Following a string of burglaries that have occurred in Marlboro since August, the police department took extra steps to patrol for suspicious activity, Holmes said. Patrolman Edward Ungrady was working on that surveillance detail at about 7 p.m. Feb. 17 when he noticed a suspicious vehicle and individuals fleeing from a home on Valesi Drive, off Route 520.

In the course of conducting a motor vehicle stop, the patrolman determined that the occupants of the vehicle were responsible for committing a burglary at the home on Valesi Drive from which they were seen fleeing, according to police. Among the items that were found in the suspects' car were black pullover masks and a large amount of cash.

The circumstances surrounding that Sunday evening burglary matched the circumstances of burglaries that had previously been committed in the area, Holmes said.

Information and intelligence provided by multiple agencies, including the FBI's Newark division, was used to assist and identify the individuals as being part of the Teaneck burglary ring, Holmes said.
