Scouts mark anniversary
During February 2008 the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, is celebrating the Boy Scouts of America's 98th anniversary of service to youth and families, and proud tradition of participating in citizenship, character development and community service.

According to a press release, Monmouth Council serves more than 7,000 youths, including young women in the coed Venturing and Exploring programs, and has more than 2,800 men and women serving as volunteer leaders.

The council owns and operates two year-round camping facilities, Quail Hill Scout Reservation, Manalapan, and Forestburg Scout Reservation, Forestburgh, N.Y.

As part of the 98th anniversary many special events are planned, including Scouting Anniversary Week, Pinewood Derby races, Eagle Scout courts of honor, Blue and Gold banquets and town council proclamations. A total of 154 Scouts attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2007 and were recently honored at the annual Eagle Scout recognition dinner.
