Records fall at Rebel Indoor Shot Put Series The second of four meets this winter at Howell High School sawWatt top the Junior Girls Class mark of 41-6 ½ that she had set in the first meet of the year. Watt followed that with her 43-1 at the Jan. 18 meet. Lacey's Marisa Roberts was second (29-1), almost 14 feet behind Watt. Old Bridge's Merino had equaled the Junior Boys Class record of 50-4 at the first meet. He had matched the mark of Arthur L. Johnson High School's (Union County) Oliver Haney. With his 51-1 in the second meet, he has the record to himself. Jackson Memorial's Shane Carle was second (47-10 ½). Sophia Belaid of BrickMemorialmade it two straight in FroshGirlswith a 31-6.Runner up was Priscilla Napoli ofHowell (26-9). Also winning for the girls were Amanda Spoto of St. Joseph HillAcademy (Staten Island, N.Y.) in Sophomore Girls (32-11) and Kiara Fountain of Williamstown (34-7 ½) in Senior Girls. Old Bridge boys had a big night, winning three of the four classes. Besides Merino, the Knights won the Frosh and Sophomore classes. Sikandar Hayat topped James Seals of Barnegat, 31-8 to 30-7, to finish first in Frosh Boys. Daniel D'Amato won Sophomore Boys with a 42-1 throw. Jackson Memorial's Jerrance Brown was second over Old Bridge's MichaelHunt via the tiebreaker (second-best throw) after both had done 40-1. Colts Neck's Frank Snead got off a 45- 5 ½ to win Senior Boys over Barnegat's Mike D'Esposito (40-8 ½). Last night was the third meet of the series. The fourth and final meet is Feb. 21, starting at 6:30 p.m. (check in at 6).
