Marlboro H.S. selected for program
The New Jersey Center for Character Education (NJCCE) at Rutgers University has announced that Marlboro High School will participate in a statewide Partnership for Advancing Character Education through Service- Learning (PACES).

According to Dr. Philip Brown, director of NJCCE, "Marlboro High School was chosen because of its commitment to creating effective service-learning projects that strengthen curriculum while fostering emotional, social and personal growth."

As one of only 18 schools chosen in New Jersey,Marlboro High School will engage in a professional partnership throughout the year with Egg Harbor Township and PleasantTech Academy to create service-learning projects that will strengthen character development while being closely connected to classroom study, according to a press release.

Marlboro High School will receive an award of $2,700.

The PACES project, a joint endeavor of the New Jersey Department of Education, Learn and Serve America, and NJCCE, encourages students from demographically different schools to meet and exchange ideas about character education activities and curriculum.

Different from community service, service-learning is an instructional method that links structured service to the community with what is being learned in the classroom and reinforces community service as a lifelong commitment.

"Marlboro High School is looking forward to expanding our student opportunities while providing them with practical experiences that will enrich their high school experience," Principal Gerald North said.

The project will be supervised by team leaders Cynthia Baumgartner, assistant principal, and Donna Galinski, media specialist.
