Margaret Evelyn Butler Hugus

Mrs. Hugus, 90, of Freehold, died Dec. 21, 2007, in Holmdel of natural causes. She was born in Bayville and had resided in Freehold for most of her adult life. A graduate of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, Mrs. Hugus was a former schoolteacher in the Millstone Township and Howell Township school districts. She had served as church organist and music director of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold for more than 30 years and also played the organ at several other Freehold churches. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Cecilian Club, as well as a prior elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold and a member of its Unity Club. Mrs. Butler was predeceased by her husband, Frank L. Hugus, in 1977. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Karen Hugus of Juno Beach, Fla., Frank and Nancy Hugus of Danville, Calif., and Robert and Sue Hugus of Point Pleasant Beach; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Main St., Freehold, NJ 07728.
