Max Spanover

Mr. Spanover, 90, of Manalapan, died Dec. 19, 2007, at home. Born in New York City, he had lived in the Bronx, N.Y., and Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan 34 years ago. Mr. Spanover was an accountant with the Veterans Administration, Brooklyn, for a number of years, retiring many years ago. He later became a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, and then worked as a clerk in CentraState's Radiology Department. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Spanover served as a sergeant during World War II and received two Purple Heart medals. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias. He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Gutter of Manalapan; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
