The national championships were held at Rim Rock Farm, Lawrence, Kan., earlier this month. Lundberg, 10, had qualified for the Junior Olympics at both the New Jersey State championships and the Region 2 meet in Birdsboro, Pa. He completed the 3K layout, which was covered with ice and snow in Lawrence in 13:47.08. The Manalapan Braves Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee football team put together a perfect regular season 2007. The Braves were 8-0 and won the Jersey Shore Pop Warner Football League A Central Division championship. That qualified the Braves for state and regional postseason play. Manalapan outscored its opponents 185- 32 over the eight games. Tailback Tyler Leonetti scored 23 touchdowns to lead the offense. Quarterback Nicky Gugliara was the field general running the offense, while fullback Mikey Caggiano and the offensive line, controlled the line of scrimmage. The Brave Jr. Pee Wees are: Nicky Gugliara, Mike Caggiano, William Meany, Joe Caltabiano, Chris Rodriguez, Tyler Leonetti, Andrew Falcone, Alex Chaudhry, David Miller, Matt Colella, Mike Vollaro, Matt Higgins, Frank Daniels, Ryan Mc- Grane, Dan Mashel, Dan Debner, Tyler Klecan, Lance Laino, Reily Radosevich, Jonathan Harnish and Mike Flynn. They have garnered a record of 33 wins, 17 losses and three ties, going undefeated in their last 14 outings, and winning six straight championship titles. Cobras team pitching was perfect with multiple one-hit games, and a no-hitter as well. An impressive record of tournament wins makes them the team to beat. The club is a two-time USABL 14/15U 2007 Championship team, Summer Heat Wood Bat 14U champions, Cheese Quake Summer Blast 14U champions and Jackson Labor Day Bash 14U champions. When asked, the players will say that the most memorable win was the final game of the Jackson Labor Day Bash. A 6-5 win against the Jersey Bombers was a total team effort, and kept spectators on the edge of their seats. It was a hard-fought victory but it was pure baseball. The Central Jersey Cobra players: Michael Arecchi, Chris Baxter, David Bizenov, Steve Canoro, James Chiorello, Ryan Demouth, Marco Ferrante, Vinny Ferrara, Jonathan Ingargiola, Spencer Krug, Jonathan Lanza, James, Nick Ortiz, Joe Ramirez, Kevin, Angelo Scaccetti. Carl Ingargiola, manager of the Cobras, has taken this group of talented young men a long way. Training begins the first weekend in January with the first games beginning in March. Sunday, Nov. 18 was the Cobras' last game of the 2007 season. Playing in a cold, steady drizzle at 39 degrees didn't dampen the team's spirit, as they ended their year with a 10- 1 win against the Howell Colts, capturing their second USABL Championship title this year. | |||||
