Applewood plans December events
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Applewood Estates, Gully Road, a not-for-profit, all inclusive lifecare community for adults 65 and older, is hosting a series of literary, musical and wellness events during the month of December. All of the events are free and open to the public and will be held in the community's new 250-seat performance center, which features high-tech acoustics and comfortable seating.
• Dec. 8 - Hunter College professor Lawrence Kowerski, a noted literary expert, will address "Classical Influences on Harry Potter." This entertaining and informative lecture will begin at 2 p.m. and will focus on author J.K. Rowling's novels.
• Dec. 10 - "The Talents of Woman Composers," a cultural program saluting accomplished female writers and musicians, is being led by Karen Zumbrun at 2 p.m.
• Dec. 11 - The Freehold Multigenerational Orchestra, a string ensemble featuring Applewood residents and young musicians from surrounding communities, will perform a concert featuring a variety of festive seasonal selections. The program will begin at 7 p.m.
• Dec. 14 - "Stress Management for the Holidays and Beyond" is a workshop specially designed to offer simple, easily implemented techniques that address anxiety throughout the year. The session will begin at 1:30 p.m.
