Michael L. Alonso, son and Maria and Mario Alonso of the Morganville section of Marlboro, has entered basic cadet training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The six-week, two-phased orientation program, which prepares men and women to meet the mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets, must be successfully completed by the cadets before they enter their freshman year at the academy. Phase one involves personal in-processing, orientation and training in the fundamentals of being a cadet; phase two prepares the cadets to function in field conditions by living outdoors in tents. During the second phase, they complete obstacle, confidence, assault and leadership reaction courses and also participate in a rescue mission termed Operation Warrior. Alonso is a 2006 graduate of Marlboro High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Damian Basdeo, son of Susan G. Flynn and stepson of James P. Flynn of Howell, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. The eight-week program involved classroom study and practical instruction in naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Basdeo is a 2007 graduate of Howell High School.

Seaman Jason Kallaur graduated from the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, Aug. 3. While there he was one of only four recruits selected out of 117 to serve on the Honor Guard at the training center. He was also recruited to serve with the U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard stationed in Washington, D.C.

During the eight-week program Kallaur completed a variety of training which included classroom academics, practical instruction in military customs and courtesies, water safety and survival, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship as well as physical fitness. He is currently completing his advanced training at the Yorktown Training Center, Yorktown, Va.

Kallaur, the son of Mary and Bill Kallaur of Marlboro, is a 2006 graduate of Marlboro High School.

Army Pvt. Stephen M. DuBois, son of Marie DuBois of Millstone Township and Steve DuBois of Manalapan, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During his nine weeks of training, DuBois studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; took part in physical fitness; and received instruction and practice in various areas including chemical warfare and bayonet training, marching, drill and ceremony, rifle marksmanship, map reading, field tactics, basic first aid and foot marches. He is a 2004 graduate of Manalapan High School.

Army Reserve Pvt. Paul T. Coyle, son of Mary Coyle of Howell, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During his nine weeks of training, Coyle studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy and justice, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. Emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
