Mayor hesitated on exploring alternate energy program
In 2003, the state of New Jersey launched the most aggressive solar electric program in our nation. The program was designed to jump-start both the residential and commercial solar electric market in our state. The program gave forward-thinking folks tremendous financial incentives to install solar electric systems in their homes, businesses or communities.

Many of our Marlboro residents (me included) took advantage of this program in the early stages and reaped both the social and financial benefits of the program at their homes and businesses.

With the help of Councilwoman Patti Morelli, several of these residents and I came before Mayor Robert Kleinberg multiple times to share the benefits we had already received. We did this in hopes that he would take a leadership role in our state and embrace this program for the betterment of our town and its residents.

These folks and Councilwoman Morelli clearly explained to the mayor how involvement in this program could mean millions of dollars of BPU grant money that could be gotten to help fund a system for the township. This would in turn reduce the township's operating costs and lower property taxes.

This was one of the mayor's core campaign promises and these solar pioneers were looking to help Mayor Kleinberg keep his commitment to those who had elected him. To date we still have not embraced this program, and with this mayor we may never see it.

Mayor Kleinberg hesitated and the residents he promised to serve lost out. Four years later and we still have no solar electric system. Instead, only a hollow promise in his council report of one to come some day after he evaluates it long enough for the benefits to disappear. Do not hesitate like Mayor Kleinberg in the voting booth this November and vote him out. I sure will.
