Clarification offered on farmland assessment question
Politics aside, I would like to correct Stephen McEnery's statement about state Sen. Ellen Karcher's tax assessment. If the property meets the criteria of being qualified for farmland assessment, which is that the farm has a minimum of 5 acres and has a gross income of at least $500, she would only pay the reduced rate on the farmland portion of the property and not on the residence, which has the same rate as non-farmers.

The $218.47 she pays is for farmland and if she should be paying the $15,000, which was stated, I am sure she does. They are two separate tax bills.
