Monmouth sheriff announces promotions

Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley recently announced the promotion of six officers and supervisors from the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township.

"I'm very proud to have these fine supervisors among the ranks of our nationally recognized corrections division," Oxley said. "Their continued hard work is an important ingredient in the outstanding performance of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution."

Among those promoted were Capt. Glenn Bongiovi of Point Pleasant, Lt. Kevin LaGravenis of Freehold, Lt. John Kolodziej of Cream Ridge, Lt. Shawn Althouse of South Toms River, Sgt. James Smith of Tinton Falls, and Sgt. Mark Brawley of Middletown.

The Monmouth County Correctional Institution is a nationally accredited, maximum security, adult correctional facility with a 1,328-bed capacity. It is operated by a staff of 420 employees including 331 corrections officers and 40 supervisors. The jail is a direct supervision facility where inmates live in housing units with individual sleeping facilities for up to 66 inmates. The jail operates a fully staffed healthcare facility that provides comprehensive medical and dental care, according to the sheriff 's office.
