Hornik earns support for Marlboro mayor
In a past edition of the News Transcript (April 25, 2007), I read with interest as John Gibardi, Republican municipal chairman of Marlboro, defended Mayor Robert Kleinberg's "record of accomplishments" here in Marlboro.

He states, " … When a mayor

has accomplished as much as he

has during his initial term, reality

is that political rivals must

create spin and divert attention

away from those accomplishments

… "

Nowhere in this letter did I read of any "record of accomplishment." However, I am aware of the following issues negatively impacting the mayor, the residents, and the quality of life in town:

• Unethical use of a township vehicle for personal use at unknown cost to the taxpayers.

• Requesting the police chief resign, and replacing him with a public safety director.

• Failure to attend numerous Planning Board meetings to chart future growth of Marlboro.

• Failure to assure the residents of Hamilton Park - the township's most economically challenged citizens - the assurance and peace of mind that their lease will be renewed and renegotiated. Failure to do so will result in mass evictions, more development, and loss of affordable housing credits.

• $60,000 of taxpayers' money to renovate and refurbish Town Hall and the mayor's office.

• Boasting of "unprecedented cooperation" with federal authorities regarding wrongdoing by corrupt officials. Cooperation is mandated in the oath of office Mr. Kleinberg took upon becoming mayor. Failure to do so will result in him being charged with contempt and official misconduct

In the interests of party loyalty, I voted for Mr. Kleinberg in 2003. I also supported him by signing his petition to validate him to run for another term. I made a mistake.

I believe Jon Hornik will bring honesty, integrity and ethical behavior back to a town where it has long been absent.
