Miller to seek council seat in Freehold FREEHOLD - Resident Ted Miller said Monday that he has replaced Joseph Liguori on the Republican ticket for a three-year seat on the Borough Council. Miller said his name will appear on the ballot on Election Day, Nov. 6. There will be two three-year council terms on the ballot. Democratic councilmen Jaye Sims and Kevin Kane are seeking re-election. Miller, 48, of Henry Street, issued a press release on Sept. 24 to announce his candidacy. He said, "My wife Lisa and I moved to Freehold Borough in 1999 to start a family and we enjoy living in New Jersey's smallest city." Eight years and three children later, Miller said he and his family are still hopeful that there are enough faithful, forward thinking residents, new and old, who are ready to make Freehold Borough the "All-American" great place to thrive. "I am looking forward to adding a new voice for the first class quality of life that all Freehold Borough homeowners, investors and like-minded residents desire. I am both qualified and highly motivated to communicate solutions, motivate conclusive actions that produce a first class quality of life," Miller said in a press release. Miller said Freehold Borough's municipal revenue engine is mainly homeownerratable driven. He said new avenues beyond downtown development must be publicly articulated, explored and executed. Miller said there is potential to lessen the burden on the escalating real estate tax through the establishment of a Business and Economic Development Advisory Committee. In the press release, Miller said he believes Freehold Borough needs venues that assure accountable pathways for municipal property tax relief through creative, growth-structured revenue streams and municipal cost downs, not cutbacks. "I share a clear passion for our schools, seek strong prosecution of illegal rentals, support appropriate implementation of a 287(g) program and champion the first class quality of life issue that all residents face every day. My campaign will define on our common concerns and aspirations," he said. The 287(g) program to which Miller referred is a federal program that trains local law enforcement officers to have some ability to deal with issues related to the presence of illegal immigrants in the community. Miller said he manages the northeast region for a technology software company. Democratic Mayor Michael Wilson is running unopposed for re-election on Nov. 6. Wilson has been Freehold Borough's mayor since April 1985 and is the longestserving mayor in the history of the town. |
