1st Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul R. Wainwright III, son of Diana L. Wainwright and Paul R. Wainwright Jr., both of Howell, recently graduated from the Navy's Nuclear Power School with Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

During the six-month course, Wainwright received fundamental training in several technical fields related to the nuclear power program. Wainwright studied mathematics and physics for three months in preparation for hands-on training later in the course. In the latter half of the course, Wainwright spent hours becoming familiar with nuclear reactor theory and operations.

With his newly acquired knowledge, Wainwright is prepared to operate a reactor on a nuclear powered submarine or aircraft carrier, ensuring the availability of propulsion and power.

Wainwright is a 2005 graduate of Howell High School and joined the Navy in July 2005.

Marine Corps Cpl. Luis D. Van Driss, a 2000 graduate of Freehold Township High School, recently received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. To earn the medal, Van Driss achieved and maintained a satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the entire period. Van Driss is currently assigned with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron One, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan. Van Driss joined the Marine Corps in March 2004.
