Special units plan open house

MANALAPAN - The Manalapan Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will host an open house on Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its new operations center in the public works/recycling facility behind the Manalapan Senior Center, Route 522.

The operations center is the functional home of the MRC-CERT and houses its mobile facilities, supplies and equipment. Free refreshments will be available.

In addition, the MRC-CERT will recognize and honor Eagle Scout candidate Bradley Silverstein and the Boy Scouts of Troop 434 for their work in preparing the operations center as part of Bradley's Eagle Scout project.

"We are proud to share our new operations center with the community," said Kim Silverstein, coordinator for the Manalapan MRC-CERT. "The opening of this facility is just one of the exciting goals that the hard work of our volunteers has accomplished."

The MRC and CERT volunteers provide "surge" capacity during emergencies to the township's first responders. With a membership of more than 170 individuals, the local MRC-CERT is always recruiting new volunteers. For more information about volunteering, call (732) 446-8345.
