Marlboro's Joey Piccolo, 12, was selected to represent New Jersey at the State Wars hockey tournament held in Chicago. It was the second straight year that Piccolo was named to the New Jersey team.

New Jersey advanced to the bronze medal round, where it fell to a team from Georgia, 3-1, to finish fourth. Piccolo scored New Jersey's lone goal.

The tournament was played in Edge Arena, the practice and training facility for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.

Piccolo plays travel hockey for the Cougars, who are located in Sewell. The Cougars played in the National finals this year in Fort Meyers, Fla., where they finished sixth. Piccolo was the team's second leading scorer with six goals and four assists during the tournament.

Brad Emmons is playing tight end for the Delaware Valley College football team in 2007. Emmons, a Colts Neck High School grad, was a letter winner for the Aggies when they went 8-3 and earned a berth in the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl Game, where they lost to Salisbury University, 15-9.

Emmons, a junior, is one of several local players on the Delaware Valley roster this year, which includes his brother, Brandon Emmmons, a sophomore defensive back. Also on the team are freshman receiver Scott Dankel (Howell) and junior defensive lineman Justin Stattel (Marlboro).

Delaware Valley (Doyelstown, Pa.) doesn't play its first home game until Sept. 29, when King's College makes a call.

The New Jersey Twins, a 15U travel baseball team, went 5-2 at the Mickey Mantle 15-UAABC World Series held in Owasso, Okla., last month. The Twins, who won the New Jersey state title, beating Flemington 2-0 to qualify for the Mickey Mantle tournament, reached the semifinal round at Owasso.

Although the Twins are based in Blairstown, they have several area players, including Billy Acquaviva, Red Bank Catholic, Zachary Carroll, Howell High School, Tyler Haines, Freehold Township High School, Jeff Hensley, Allentown High School, Josh Howell, Allenton High School, Charlie Lasky, Colts Neck High School, Mike Maiorano, Allentown High School, and Andy Sullivan, Monroe High School.
