Marlboro Day promises fun MARLBORO - The Marlboro Parks and Recreation Commission is gearing up for the 24th annual Marlboro Day celebration to be held on Sept. 9 at the Marlboro municipal complex, Wyncrest Road. The event will kick off at noon with entertainment, free rides for children, games, crafts, pony rides and vendors. DJ Mike Brachfeld from Sound Trax will be on hand at the main stage to fill the air with music. The food court will feature a variety of tasty temptations. There will be presentations made by Marlboro senior recreation, the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy, Dance Attitudes, Noble Productions, Cat's Pajamas, Black Belt Academy, Blue Dragon and Ladies Workout Express. Shuttle buses will be running to and from the municipal complex all day from the Marlboro Recreation Community Center, the Marlboro Middle School, the Marlboro Elementary School and the Marlboro library. Marlboro Day will run from noon until 5 p.m. The rain date will be Sept. 16. One person who will be busy early Sunday and all day at Marlboro Day will be Mariel Weisbart, 14, of Marlboro. She will be up early to bake 100 chocolate cakes from scratch at Entree Vous, Marlboro. By noon the cakes will have arrived at Marlboro Day to be sold to benefit the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center. The child advocacy center to be built in Freehold Township, is a safe private child friendly facility where children of abuse, neglect and assault will be able to access necessary services under one roof. Mariel said she believes raising money to build the new facility and building awareness to keep all of Monmouth County's children safe will make this area an even better place to grow up in and to flourish. Her parents Roni Golden and Randy Weisbart and sisters Eve and Jenna, and assistant chef Amanda Kurtz are looking forward to the positive impact that selling 100 cakes will have on community awareness for the child advocacy center. Mariel thanked Annissa Berger at Entree Vous for providing an approved baking facility. For more info on reserving an organic cake, call (732) 972-0324. |
