Women's club to host ice-cream social, Sept. 10

Marlboro and Shrewsbury-area dog lovers are invited to celebrate their bond with their pets at a local "Dog Day Fun Fest," Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in observance of the American Kennel Club's (AKC) Responsible Dog Ownership Day. The free event is hosted by Best Friends Pet Care, 234 Boundry Road, Building No. 3, Marlboro, in conjunction with the AKC.

The event will feature a variety of fun and educational activities for dogs and dog lovers. There will be dog-friendly games and contest - from serious competitions like "best matching outfits for dog and owner" to just-for-fun events such as bobbing for hot dogs and a "kissing booth."

Dog owners can try new activities with their dog and expand their knowledge of their pet's health and behavior at demonstrations and workshops by trainers, veterinarians, groomers and other pet-care professionals. Other offerings include lowcost microchipping, Canine Good Citizen testing, pet first-aid demonstrations and more.

Don't have a dog? Local shelters and rescue groups will attend with adoptable dogs looking for homes.

AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day is a monthlong celebration involving hundreds of organizations around the country.
