Youths go on mission to Pa.

FREEHOLD - The youth of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold embarked on a journey to "make a difference" in the lives of other people during June.

From June 24-29, 20 junior high school and senior high students journeyed to Pittsburgh, Pa., as part of their annual activities to give back to those who are less for tunate.

According to a press release, the purpose of this annual mission trip was to create new experiences for youths so they have a better and more comprehensive idea of the challenges of the world around them. The 20 youths and their five adult leaders found themselves volunteering at a local Vacation Bible School, helping at nursing homes, cleaning elderly people's homes and yards, packing shoes and teddy bears for World Vision and various other projects. It was through these activities that these youths experienced growth in their Christian faith, as individuals as well as a group.

According to the Rev. Cindy Bowman, trip organizer, "The trip was a success not only in terms of the lives we touch, but equally positive was the growth each of the youths experienced due to their di - rect involvement with this pro gram."

The youths will continue to reach out to others in need, whether it is locally in Freehold, or through their next mission trip in 2008. The First Presbyterian Church of Freehold has many op portunities for youths and adults to share in hands-on missions, accord ing to the press release.
