Liquor license transfer approved for bar that has been shuttered

MARLBORO - The state Depart-ment of Transportation's (DOT) planned installation of sidewalks on both sides of Route 9 between Texas Road and the Regal shopping center was approved by the Township Council on Aug. 2.

DOT's Office of Bicycle and Pedes-trian Program (OBPP) had received a letter from the Marlboro Police Depart-ment requesting the installation of sidewalks on both sides of Route 9 in that area.

The Regal shopping center is on the northbound side of Route 9 near Texas Road. The southbound side of the highway in that vicinity includes a CVS pharmacy and a strip mall.

In a letter dated July 23, Joseph Powell of the OBPP stated that the OBPP had investigated the conditions in the area and agreed that sidewalks are warranted. The letter also stated that after the council's resolution of support, the project would be presented to the Division of Capital Programs for funding approval.

In a 4-0 vote, the council approved the resolution. Marlboro will be responsible for snow removal on the sidewalks, according to the terms of the agreement.

Councilwoman Patricia Morelli was absent from the Aug. 2 meeting.

In other action, the council approved a resolution to transfer a liquor license which had been held by the Fireside Lodge (Leocadia and Eugene Janowski Inc.) to the Just Sports Bar and Grill.

The Fireside Lodge, on Route 79 at Marlboro's border with Freehold Township, has been closed for some time.

According to information provided by the council, there are five men sharing ownership of Just Sports Bar and Grill - Sal Barbagallo, of Colts Neck; Robert Woloshen, of Matawan; Orlando Rodri-guez, of Matawan; John Drum, of Manalapan; and Patrick Drum, of the Morganville section of Marlboro.

The applicant was qualified to be licensed based on all standards established by the New Jersey Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, according to the council resolution.

Council President Jeff Cantor wished the men good luck and success with their new business venture.

And, Mayor Robert Kleinberg announced that round two of the mayor's Weight Loss Challenge will begin in September. He also talked about the success of the recreation department's summer day camp, which he said had its largest number of campers this year.

It was announced that Sept. 9 will be the annual Marlboro Day celebration, which Kleinberg described as "one of our greatest events."
