O'Flaherty, Petersen win FARC 5K race at Battlefield State Park

Freehold Borough sophomore Cody O'Flaherty returned to his winning form last Wednesday at the Freehold Area Running Club's Summer Series.

The Colonial toured the Battlefield State Park's 5K layout in Manalapan in 18:16 to best Mike Milsen (18:41) by 25 seconds. Manuel Arpti was third (18:52).

Randy Spadola (19:00) and Andrew Posen (19:04) were fourth and fifth.

Rounding out the Top 10 were: Pat Hynes (19:23), Matt Gabor (19:24.58), Bill Payne (19:24.59), Joe Kreppein (19:30) and Gary Sparapani (19:31.35).

Megan Petersen was a repeat winner in the women's division, clocking 21:27. Rachel Morris was runner-up (22:00), with Anne Werkley third (22:10).

Liz Spector (22:50) and Sarah Werkley (23:57) were fourth and fifth.

Age group winners were: 14-Under, Male, James Faith (20:25) and Female, Sarah Werkley; 15-19, Male, Spadola and Female, Bridget Joyce (24:03); 20-29, Male, Matthew Springer (21:55); 30-39, Male, Chris Davis (21:37) and Female, Spector; 40-49, Male, Bob Andrews (20:36) and Female, Alisa Hagenberg (24:00); 50-59, Male, Payne and Female, Jan Peterson (28:31); 60-69, Male, Rick Bassette (26:36); 70-79, Male, Yuvi Metelkin (23:53) and Female, Marian Mullarkey (32:16).

The Summer Series, now in its 25th year, continues tonight with the 5K starting at 6:45 p.m. The series will conclude on Aug. 8.
