ChessFest is coming to Asbury Park in September

Prevention First, a Monmouth County nonprofit organization, will host the eighth annual ChessFest 2007 on Sept. 29 on Asbury Park's 5th Avenue Boardwalk, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event for Monmouth County children ages 5 to 18 is designed to spark interest about the game of chess.

This year the event will feature a special guest, International Grandmaster Maurice Ashley. He is the author of "Chess for Success" and designer of an award-winning chess tutorial for CD-ROM, "Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess."

ChessFest 2007, presented by Verizon, will also showcase other champion chess masters and experts from around the state who will work with all registered participants. Registration is free and the first 50 children to register will receive a free chess set and ChessFest T-shirt.

To register for ChessFest or for more information, call Barbara Sprechman, (732) 663-1800, ext. 211.
