Finances get perfect review

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Mayor Dorothy H. Avallone announced that the Township Committee will adopt, by resolution, the 2006 audit.

According to a press release from Freehold Township, municipalities are required by the state to have all of their financial records reviewed on an annual basis.

The firm of Armour S. Hulsart and Company sent an audit team of three municipal accountants to Freehold Township. The team spent approximately five weeks reviewing all levels of township financial transactions.

According to the press release, the result of the audit is that there were no comments and, therefore, no corrective action plan was necessary.

"Considering the township handles well over $100 million and considering the fact that there is a multitude of laws and regulations that are to be followed, having no comments or no required corrective action plan is incredible. This is a tribute to the financial management of Freehold Township," Deputy Mayor Eugene B. Golub said.

According to the press release, Free-hold Township Chief Financial Officer Debrah DeFeo and her finance team handle many of the financial transactions. Purchasing is handled by Richard D. Phelan, assistant township administrator. Phelan is a qualified purchasing agent, which is defined as one who has been certified and active in purchasing for a minimum of five years.
