Town, landlord embroiled in suit
BY ELANA ARON
Correspondent

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Town-ship Attorney Duane O. Davison will be defending the municipality in a lawsuit filed by Silver Enterprises Inc.

The Silvermead manufactured home adult community between Jackson Mills Road and Route 9 has been subject to rent control since the late 1970s.

According to Davison, owner Seymour Silver wants Freehold Township to amend its rent control ordinance, which would then fall under the category of vacancy de-control.

Davison said the township is willing to work with a modified vacancy de-control, in which a landlord can raise the rent to the highest of a like unit in the complex.

"Mr. Silver wants to raise it as much as the market allows," Davison said.

Silver was unavailable for comment.

In addition to Silvermead, which was established in 1965, Silver Enterprises also owns manufactured home communities in Hazlet and Holmdel.
