Obituaries

John P. Allen Sr.

Mr. Allen, 85, of East Brunswick, died June 22, 2007, at home. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a millwright with E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 44 years. His wife, Sophie Yanush Allen, died in 2006, and a son, Scott Allen, died in 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Lotti, and her husband, John, and Karen Allen Guen, and her husband, Leo, all of East Brunswick; three sons, John P. Jr., and his companion, Denise Mele, of the Forked River section of Lacey, Larry, and his wife, Sandy, of Smithville, Ohio, and Kevin, and his wife, Diane, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Rosemarie Gatsch, and her husband, Don, of Freehold; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Spotswood. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Floretta Dozier

Mrs. Dozier, 71, of Manalapan, died June 11, 2007, at East Orange General Hospital, East Orange. Mrs. Dozier was born in Bessemer, Ala., and had resided in Manalapan for the past 36 years. Prior to retiring, she was a cosmetologist at Romeo and Juliet Beauty Salon, Howell. She attended Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Starlight Chapter, Plainfield. Mrs. Dozier was predeceased in 1994 by her husband, Vincent. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Troy and Christa L. Dozier of South Bound Brook, and Vincent Dozier Jr. of Sicklerville; a daughter, Annette Dozier of Egg Harbor Township; a sister, Eleanor Louise Savage of Laurel, Md.; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. The viewing and services were held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.

Roseann J. Berman

Mrs. Berman, 81, of Kenosha, Wis., formerly of Manalapan, died June 13, 2007, at home. She was born in Milwaukee. Mrs. Berman retired from Macy's after 14 years of service as a manager. She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Kenosha, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mrs. Berman was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin, in 1983; and a son, Joel I. Berman, in 1993. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Edward and Maria Berman of Alexandria, Va., David and Dr. Josephine Berman of Kenosha, and Joyce and David Rovneyko of Toms River; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth Whelan of Randolph, Margaret Moulton of California, Jeanne and Edward Chartier of Ohio, and Mary Ellen Zahnzinger of California; four grandsons; and several other relatives and friends in Kenosha and New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Peter's Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Thomas E. Mariano

Mr. Mariano, 75, of Freehold Township, died June 13, 2007, at home. Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Freehold Township in 1964. Mr. Mariano was employed at Proctor & Gamble, Staten Island, N.Y., for 39 years, retiring as a warehouse dispatcher in 1990. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where he was an active volunteer, and he held various positions with the Freehold Township Little League. Mr. Mariano is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucy Laraia Mariano; four sons, Gunnar, Timmy and Thomas Mariano, all of Freehold Township, and Kevin Mariano of Jackson; and two grandsons. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.

William V. Grinevetsky Jr.

Mr. Grinevetsky, 81, of Freehold, died June 14, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Manhattan, N.Y., before moving to Freehold in 1931. He was in the poultry business with his father until 1953, when he became a mason and was a member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsworkers Local No. 5, Bordentown, retiring in 1987. He received a Crafts Award in 1987. Mr. Grinevetsky was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II and piloted a B-29 bomber for a brief time. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Freehold, where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a member and trustee of Freehold Elks Lodge No. 1454. He was awarded a commendation in 1987 and 1993 and was Elk of the Year for 1993-94. He was predeceased by his firstborn grandson, Christopher, in 1979. Mr. Grinevetsky is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; four children, Sue Grinevetsky Lithgow and her companion Charles, Patty McCullough and her husband Tom, Billy Grinevetsky and his companion Sue, and Beth Schupsky and her husband Tom; nine grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Simmonds and her husband Fred, and Vlasta Loxton; a sister-in-law, Jane Ostermiller; a brother-in-law, Jack Ostermiller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held at the Reformed Church of Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

Harry Aurin Hunt

Mr. Hunt, 89, of Freehold Township, died June 14, 2007, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Bernards Township. Born in Duquesne, Pa., he had resided in Mount Vernon, Maine, and Bergenfield before moving to Freehold Township in 1979. He graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to retiring, he was a manager and salesman for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Hackensack. Mr. Hunt was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 74 of Freehold. He was a member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent section of Manalapan. He was predeceased in 1999 by his wife, Marjorie Jean Hunt. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Aurean and Ronald Michael Van Dalinda of Paterson, and Mary Jean Hunt of Freehold Township; a sister, Marion Wagner of Pennsylvania; and two granddaughters. Services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Margaret "Sis" Brown Carlson

Mrs. Carlson, 83, of Freehold Township, died June 15, 2007, at The Manor Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in Neptune and raised in Bradley Beach, she moved to Freehold Township in 1967 after spending many years overseas with her husband in Germany, Costa Rica and Mexico. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross during World War II and following the war, she graduated from Sargent College of Boston University as a physical therapist. She was on the staff at Long Branch Medical Hospital during the polio epidemic in the late 1940s. Mrs. Carlson is survived by her husband of 56 years, William; a son and daughter-in-law, William M. and Barbara Carlson of Hainesport; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Robert Hines of Reston, Va.; two grandchildren; a brother, Michael "Jim" Brown of Shark River Hills; a sister-in-law, Maxine Brown of Toms River; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to Associated Humane Societies Home of Popcorn Park Zoo, P.O. Box 1002, Forked River 08731-0982.

Marion A. Tyrpak

Mrs. Tyrpak, 86, of Freehold, died June 22, 2007, at Bartley Manor, Jackson. Born in Edenville, N.Y., she had lived in Warwick, N.Y., before moving to Freehold more than 50 years ago. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas Jr. and Nancy E. Tyrpak of Freehold, and Michael and Anna Tyrpak of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ann Tyrpak of Nutley, and Diane and Roger Corliss of Cudjoe Key, Fla.; a brother, Donald Vanduzer of Warwick; two sisters, Beatrice Lutz of Warwick and Doris Morgiewicz of Pine Island, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
