School honors supporters MARLBORO - Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Monmouth County has announced the recipients of special awards who were honored at the 2006-07 Scholarship Journal Dinner Dance on June 7 at the Grand Marquis, Old Bridge. Dr. Kenneth and Ann Nahum, the 2006-07 honorees, have been part of the Solomon Schechter family for almost 15 years, starting with the enrollment of Kelly, in 1993, and continuing with Brittany, in 1995, and David, in 1998. David will graduate from Solomon Schechter's eighth grade this year. According to a press release from the school, the Nahums' contributions have helped shaped Solomon Schechter Day School in many ways and have included financial support, class visits by Dr. Nahum, coaching the basketball team by Ann Nahum, and much more. Carol Werthan, the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, began her service to the school in 2001 with her husband, Tom, and their children, Melanie and Joseph. Werthan has co-chaired the book fair, served as class parent, and chaired the Purim carnival and the annual Scholar-ship Dinner Dance. In 2005, Werthan took on the presidency of the parent-teacher association and currently serves as the PTO representative to the Board of Trustees. Karen Hodes, recipient of the Meri-torious Award, began her association with Solomon Schechter Day School in 1998 when she and her husband, Art, enrolled their son Matthew in kindergarten. Hodes has worked on many fundraisers, including the goods and services auction, the art auction and the PTO raffle. She has been involved in organizing the school store and for the past several years Hodes has graciously hosted the Shomrei Schechter annual campaign reception at Branches, her catering facility in Long Branch, according to the school.
