The next regular meeting of the Monmouth Creative Writers Group will take place 7-9 June 17 at the Main Branch of the Monmouth County Library, Symmes Drive, Manalapan. The group is a peer-operated workshop for all interested writers of any level of proficiency who live in the area. It is not a school environment, but an adult professional development forum. There are no fees, no homework assignments and no grades given.
The meeting is open to members of the public who have a basic interest in the craft of creative writing. Membership is not required, but encouraged, and current members are working in various areas, from adult fiction to children's stories to poetry, screen plays, stage plays and musical lyrics Details: (732) 890-3581.
The summer will bring hot jazz back to Ocean County College when MidWeek Jazz returns on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center, Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. MidWeek Jazz brings acclaimed artists playing classic jazz to the Jersey Shore. "Boogie Bob" Seeley makes a rare East Coast visit on June 20. Seeley is acclaimed around the world as the greatest Boogie Woogie player traveling to Europe where he is popular with young people. His concerts are sprinkled with stride, blues and even a bit of ragtime to change the pace. Robbie Scott's New Deal Orchestra takes the stage July 11. This premier jazz and swing band possesses both tight arrangements and accomplished musicians. The orchestra has played the White House, Tavern on the Green, and other New York City nightspots. Dan Levinson's Palomar Quartet Returns on Aug. 22 with a tribute to Benny Goodman and the swing era.
