The Night on Broadway Company, a group whose talent includes singers Nick Fedyn, Mary Floriano, and Melissa Juska, accompanied by percussionist Sal Sanfilippo, and under the direction of Carolyn Moore, will perform music from composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Lerner and Lowe. A repertoire of songs highlighting the golden age of Broadway will be performed. The trio performs ensembles, duets, and solos from classic American theater, the big band era, popular standards, cabaret and current Broadway tunes. The program is free and open to the public. "A Scandalous Affair: The Secret Love Story of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy" will be performed at 2 p.m. June 10 at the Fine Arts Center at Ocean County College, College Drive, Toms River. Laced with humor, shocking Hollywood secrets, and real-life love letters, this story unfolds as the soprano and baritone become "America's singing sweethearts." Tragedy, betrayals and blackmail are interspersed with a mix of operetta, opera and theater. Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at-the-door. Details: (732) 255-0500.
The Calvin and Chapel Ringers will perform in concert 7 p.m. June 10 at The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank. The ringers, all high school age youth from Little Silver, Sea Bright, Tinton Falls, Middletown, Oceanport, Fair Haven and Rumson, will present a varied program of original compositions for handbells as well as arrangements of classical hymns. The two groups are under the direction of Charles Harris, director of music at First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank. The concert will precede the group's summer tour to parts of Germany and The Czech Republic. An old-fashioned ice cream social will follow the concert. "Broadway to the Movies: A Film Series" will be presented at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The library will present several thematic films adapted from popular Broadway plays. "Les Miserables" (1998) will be shown June 12. "The Music Man" (1962) will be shown June 19. The last film of the series, "Chicago" (2002) will be shown June 26. All movies are free of charge.
