Municipal work gets go-ahead

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - The Township Committee has adopted as ordinance appropriating almost $5 million for improvements to roads and parks. Money will also be used to purchase vehicles and equipment, and for general municipal renovations.

Road, sidewalk and curb improvements, and replacement and drainage, are estimated to cost $1.8 million.

A little more than $300,000 has been appropriated for park improvements, including playground pieces and other equipment, court resurfacing and bridge replacement.

Approximately $800,000 will be used for computer upgrades and expansion, police mobile data, radios and GIS digital tax mapping, tractors and mowers. New vehicles will include pickup trucks, dump trucks and compactors.

Renovations, furnishings and upgrades will go toward the municipal complex, HVAC upgrade, Justice Complex HVAC, soil and underground storage tank remediation, and the public works building.

Additionally, $300,000 has been appropriated for improvements to the water and sewer systems, which will include water main improvements and security system upgrades.
