Ivan Dmitrienko

Mr. Dmitrienko, 84, of South River, died April 27, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Russia, he came to the United Sates in 1951 and relocated to South River. Before his retirement, Mr. Dmitrienko was an employee of Carpenter Technologies, New Brunswick, and Somerset Technologies. He was drafted into the Russian Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war for three years, and worked for the U.S. government in Germany. Mr. Dmitrienko is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonid "Len" and Vera Dmitrienko of Millstone Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Olga and David Selick of Freehold Township, and Nina and John Lukianov of South River; and seven grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Howell. Interment was at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, South River. Arrangements were by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Ronald V. Weiss

Mr. Weiss, 61, of Freehold, died May 12, 2007, at home. Born in New York City, he had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Freehold in 1972. Mr. Weiss was a self-employed karate master instructor. Surviving are his wife, Carmen Meilak Weiss; two sons, Erik Weiss of Old Bridge and Keith Weiss of Freehold; a daughter, Danielle Weiss of Jackson; two brothers; a sister; and two grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Interment was private. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Lippincott

Mrs. Lippincott, 84, of Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Farmingdale, died March 2, 2007, at home. Born in Germantown, Pa., she had lived in Farmingdale before settling in Sebastian in 1997. Mrs. Lippincott retired from McCormick Industries in 1997. She was a World War II veteran of the Women's Army Corps. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale. Mrs. Lippincott was predeceased by her husband, Kermit R. Lippincott. She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine Kubes of Sebastian and Linda McKenney of Farmingdale; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice & Foundation, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Edward James Kennedy Jr.

Mr. Kennedy, 59, of Beachwood, died May 11, 2007, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he had lived in Freehold before moving to Beachwood in 1975. He was a sheet-metal worker for the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local No. 27, Farmingdale. He served in the U.S. Army, 4th Battalion, 3rd Brigade (Old Guard), during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart award. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Karen Kennedy of Beachwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Lance McEwan of Toms River; a brother, Raymond "Rusty" Kennedy; three sisters, Cathy A. Buchalski, Joan E. Fausak and Phyllis C. Stanley; four grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Debbie Beanland. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45245-0301.

Raphael S. Hughes Jr.

Mr. Hughes, 74, of Hazlet, died May 16, 2007, at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Mich. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had been a resident of Hazlet for the past 47 years. Mr. Hughes was a systems installer at New York Bell Telephone, New York City, retiring in 1990. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the Navy League and Naval Historical Society. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his wife, Joan F. Hughes. He is survived by three sons, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Stephen R. Hughes of Baltimore, Christopher Hughes of Howell, and Brian Hughes of Freehold; a daughter, Joan Hughes Wozny of Wixom, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Bernice I. DeVito

Mrs. DeVito, 86, of Manalapan, died May 14, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Jersey City and had resided in Manalapan for most of her life. Prior to retiring, she was a cafeteria worker for the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District, where she was employed for 16 years. She was predeceased by her second husband, Christopher DeVito, in 1992. Her first husband, Edward Waake, died in 1948. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert V. and Satu Waake of Howell; five grandchildren, along with three spouses; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A graveside service was held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville 08691-4183.
