Children respond with donations MARLBORO - The Goddard School, Route 520, celebrated National Volunteer Week from April 16-20. The teachers, through lessons in their classrooms, asked each child to bring a new or gently used toy to school for those less fortunate children that do not have toys. Not only did the children and teachers help those needy children, but the children had a great learning experience. The toy drive resulted in hundreds of toys being donated. The toys were delivered to needy children in the area on April 22, according to a press release. The Goddard School opened in January 2005 and is owned and operated by Carol Vargo. The school accommodates 150 youngsters between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 years old. According to the press release, the children were delighted to place their special toy on the large pile for the needy children and not only learned sharing, but developed great self-esteem in doing so. They learned that this would help put a smile on the face of a child who does not have any toys, although they have so many. The children were extremely generous with their donations of toys. The teachers and children had a lot of fun and a great learning experience.
