Soap opera stars to play in free event at MEMS

The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education and Manalapan Township are inviting the public to attend "Shoot for the Stars" on June 2 at the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School (MEMS), Millhurst Road, Manal-apan.

Disney ABC News Celebrity All-Stars and the cast of the ABC-TV soap opera "One Life to Live" will take on Manalapan-Englishtown teachers in a basketball game at 10 a.m., following the 9 a.m. MEMS boys and girls seventh- and eighth-grade basketball game. MEMS cheerleaders and the Challenger cheerleaders will provide halftime entertainment. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Admission is free. Food and refreshments will be sold at the event.

Senior wins Marlboro singing competition

Rebecca Lullio, 17, a senior at Marlboro High School, won the annual Marlboro High School Idol singing competition April 26. Rebecca sang Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" and Evanescence's "Call Me When You're Sober." Rebecca has been taking piano and vocal lessons for 11 years, is in her school choir, and has appeared in her school's theater productions as well as various local talent showcases and competitions and the Monmouth County Fair. She plans to minor in voice in college this September.
