In the Arts

The Manalapan Battleground Symphony, sponsored by Manalapan Parks and Recreation, will present its Spring Concert May 12, 7:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Main Street, at the corner of Main and Brinkerhoff Avenue, in Freehold. This spring concert will be conducted by its symphony conductor, Chiu-Tze Lin. Three winners of the 2007 Young Artists Concerto Competition will be featured in this concert. They are Jacek Skryzalin, a 16-year-old pianist from Cherry Hill; Erica Tursi, a 16-year-old violinist from Medford, and Paul von Autenried Jr., a 13-year-old pianist from West Windsor. These winning soloists were selected from a group of 31 contestants who came from all areas of New Jersey to participate in the February competition.

Other highlights of this Spring Concert will include a favorite classic, the well-known Brahms Academic Festival Overture, which celebrates the end of the academic year.

The cost of tickets is $10. Students 16 years old and under will be admitted free of charge. Details: (732) 446-8355, or (732) 687-8527.

Brookdale Assistant Professor of Art Marie Maber, Tinton Falls, is currently exhibiting a selection of her works at the Brookdale Western Monmouth Branch Campus, Freehold Gallery, 3680 Route 9, Freehold Township. Her show, "Marie Naples Maber: Selected Works 1972 - 2007," will conclude May 30.

A highlight of her selected accomplishments, "Inside/Out," is the culmination of 23 years of work. The subject of "Inside/Out," as well as several of Maber's paintings, is the view outside a Cape May beach house kitchen window.

Maber's showing will also include the work of a dozen students from Professor Uffer's current Desktop Publishing II class. The students were given the assignment to design a brochure for Maber's exhibit and the final design creations showcase their individual interpretations of the presentation.

The free exhibit will be displayed in the Art Gallery, Room 101, and may be viewed Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details: (732) 625-7005.
